What are your new favourite bands?

I’m doing a ‘bands you should hear’ feature in the upcoming weeks. So what are you guys listening to?
…I’m not on about your Deaf Havana’s and your Fearless Vampire Killers… I’m on about your favourite local bands, bands who YOU think should be bigger. Let me know in an ask/reply to this.

Vans Warped Tour Presents: No Room For Rockstars
Earlier on this week I mentioned that I was going to see a documentary -courtesy of Rocksound Magazine. I went, I saw ..but there was nothing to conquer (obviously, unless a free bag of popcorn counts?), However, if you’re a music fan, whether it be for softer artists in the shallow end (From your Mayday Parade’s to your Rocket Summer) or the more deeper end (Bring Me The Horizon to Suicide Silence), you will love this documentary. ‘No Room For Rockstars’ is a journey from date 1 to the 43rd date, documenting the highs (and the unknown) lows to America’s most prestigious institution. It features diary entry interviews from the likes of Christofer Drew of Nevershoutnever and Mitch Lucker of Suicide Silence, who gives us a insight to what band’s really go through on tour -and it’s not as rockstar as you may think.
It’s an eye opener to the real work that goes behind the festival, a lot to which fans may not realise. From torrential weather conditions and injury to bands on the brink of a break-out.  This documentary is a must-see for any music fan.
If anything it’ll leave youmore appreciative for the bands, live music and the tour itself.
600,000 fans, 43 cities, 17000 miles, 200 bands but only one original Warped Tour. A definite eye opener.****4/5

The Audition - Chapter IILabel - UnsignedUK release date - 11th June
We’re all familiar with that band hailing from Chicago, The Audition. Having toured our shores a fair few times from 2007 on the Kerrang! Tour with Biffy Clyro, to their headline tour supported by You Me At Six in 2008 with the odd festival in-between including; Give It A Name Festival, Download Festival and the prestigious Reading & Leeds festival in 2008.
Though since then the fans favourite The Audition has had a few rocky months from finishing their last album ‘Great Danger’ in 2010 -subsequently ending their 4 album contract with label Victory Records- to losing guitarist Seth Johnson in 2011. Things seemed to look pretty bleak for the existing trio, however by September founding member Joe Lussa had rejoined and new member Jimmy Lopez stepped in to take over the departed Johnson, meaning The Audition were back to top form and writing again.
A year later and bouncing back from their hiatus they return with new self-released EP ‘Chapter II’.
Opening track ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ is everything you want from an Audition track that you know and love. Contagious beat, check. Screeching guitars, check. And of course the signature sound that comes with vocalist Danny Stevens soulful and harmonic vocals, double check. The rest of the EP follows in the same suit continuing with latest single ‘You Make Me Sick’ with its acoustic intro, but 40 seconds later we’re welcomed once again to the energetic and catchy choruses accompanied by contagious rocky-with-a-hint-of-pop beats. Something which further showcases the power Stevens has behind his voice. Next track is the haunting ‘Evil’, which opens with a somewhat spooky vibe with added demonic ramblings accompanied by a shrieking scream. This track -unlike the others- has a rather ominous undertone to it, not that it is a bad thing.
‘Back and Forth’ shows that even with a 2 year hiatus you can’t fault the band, as even with an absence and a line up change, they have not lost that sound which made fans across the globe fall head-over-heels for this pop-rock band. The track resides in the band’s comfort zone with both Timmy Klepek and Jimmy Lopez giving the track that much loved Audition stamp with a hooking and catchy vibe, accompanied with Stevens flawless vocals. It all slows down with ‘You Gotta Believe’, evidently being the ballad of the EP. Like past ballad-esque tracks such as ‘It’s Gonna Be Hard’ from ‘Self-Titled Album’ and ‘Run Away’ from their last record ‘Great Danger”, This is not just your average heart string pulling track. Like with every track on this EP it has that Audition spin on thing, with Danny’s prominent and flawless vocals given the track that kick it needs, taking it from average to extra-Auditionary.
‘Talkin’ closes the CD bringing it back to its faster paced feel than the last song, wrapping up the EP nicely with that sound no one but The Audition could bring.
It just proves that even though they’re no longer attached to a major label, it doesn’t mean they cannot survive without it. As The Audition has proved it’s not the label that makes the band. It’s the band that makes the band.
So ladies and Gentlemen I’m happy to report that The Audition are back, unsigned and stronger than ever. Now can I suggest we just sit and wait for this band to explode to success once again.

The Audition -back and stronger than ever!I remember being a teenager and having my sister pester me about some You Tube video she had been sent. I thought, ‘oh great it’s going to be some dog on a skateboard’ or something equivalent. Luckily for me it wasn’t. This time it was a video of The Audition - You’ve Made Us Concious, a song that was catchy as hell, I was hooked -this was better than any dog on a skateboard.Though unfortunately my love affair with this band was only to go as far as my iPod at the time. Hailing from Chicago, Illinois it was pretty far from London, though in 2007 the had been on the Victory Records touring bill I could not attend, bummer.
Nevertheless I welcomed each track and the two albums, it wasn’t till  March 2008 when I eventually got to see them live. Their show at Islington Academy -which was supported by that little band you may of heard of…something to do with you and six?- left me not that surprised ..as this little band I had only heard through earphones were just as -if not better- live. Since then I’ve seen them pretty much every chance I had gotten, and now they return to our shores once again to promote their latest release Chapter II.
So bloggers and music fans alike, I present to you one of the most underrated band from the US of A The Audition. Let’s start your beautiful love affair with them shall we?
